China-Australia promote bilateral relations

On October 6, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott had a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

The two leaders agreed to promote bilateral relations and accelerate negotiations on free trade.

Speaking at the meeting, President Xi Jinping said that close cooperation between the two countries not only meets the fundamental concerns of both sides but also contributes to the common development and peace of the region and the world.

China has always been committed to consolidating its relations with Australia and is willing to work with the country to further strengthen strategic cooperative relations and make the relationship a good model of peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between countries with different social systems, histories, cultures and stages of development.

He said China and Australia should strengthen four links in bilateral relations, including mutual trust, economy and trade, people-to-people exchanges, and security.

For his part, Prime Minister Abbott said that the cooperation between China and Australia brings many benefits, and pledged to promote the above four links to further develop the bilateral relationship.

Australia is ready to speed up FTA negotiations with China and welcomes Chinese businesses to invest in the country.

Australia also hopes to enhance cooperation with China within the framework of the G20 and APEC./.
