China on December 5 arrested former security official Zhou Yongkang after expelling him from the Party.

According to Reuters, Mr. Zhou Yongkang, 71 years old, was charged with many crimes, the most serious of which were accepting bribes and revealing state secrets.
In a resolution released by Xinhua News Agency in the early morning of December 6, the Chinese Politburo stated that Zhou Yongkang's case will be transferred to the country's legal agencies.

Previously, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that corruption is a problem in China and could threaten the survival of the Party.
The People's Daily wrote a commentary on December 5 that said: "Corruption is a tumor that can corrode the vitality of the Party, and the determination to cut off this tumor is necessary to consolidate the Party's line, goals and leadership, and to unify the Party's strength and create a foundation for exercising strength within the Party."
“We must take advantage of the investigation and trial of Zhou Yongkang's serious violations to step up the fight against corruption,” the newspaper stated.
