China and the European Union highly value the positive role of the High-Level Strategic Dialogue over the past three years in enhancing mutual understanding, trust and cooperation. The two sides share common interests and are increasingly interdependent in a changing world.

The two sides agreed to promote new ideas for effective cooperation, while maintaining their commitment to becoming a model for international cooperation in the 21st century. The two sides also expressed their determination to continue strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership on the basis of mutual benefit and mutual respect.

Speaking at the dialogue, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo reaffirmed his support for European integration, the stability of the eurozone and Europe's efforts to resolve the debt crisis in the region.

“China sincerely and firmly supports Europe’s efforts in dealing with the sovereign debt crisis. We believe that the EU has the ability to overcome the current difficulties and develop better,” Dai Bingguo said.

Meanwhile, the European Union reaffirmed its support for China's peaceful development and respect for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The two sides agreed to work to resolve differences and concerns in a constructive manner and strengthen cooperation on international issues.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ashton also emphasized China's role in international affairs, especially the Iranian nuclear issue: "We will continue to discuss international issues of mutual concern. I want to contribute to the work that China has done together with the P5+1 group, as we work together to ensure that we build trust in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program."

Since the two sides initiated the annual conference mechanism in 1998, China-EU relations have made significant progress, against the backdrop of a rapidly changing world. China has proven itself to be a reliable partner of the EU, especially since the global financial crisis in 2008./.
