China expels former Nanjing Mayor from Party
According to Reuters, on January 30, the Communist Party of China (CPC) expelled Mr. Gui Jianye, former Mayor of Nanjing City, capital of Jiangsu Province, for bribery and abuse of power.
He is one of the highest-ranking government officials to be brought down in President Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection concluded that Mr. Gui Jianye “took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others and accepted a large sum of money and other gifts for himself or through family members.”
Previously, Mr. Quy Kien Nghiep was removed from the position of mayor on October 19, 2013, 2 days after the government announced that he was being investigated for suspected "violations of discipline" and the law.
In the 1990s, Mr. Gui Jianye worked in many other cities in the coastal province of Jiangsu before becoming Mayor of Nanjing./.
