China plans to turn the Moon into a rocket launch base.
Experts from the Lunar Exploration Program of the China National Space Administration revealed that the Moon could be used as a military base to launch missiles at targets on Earth. This plan of Beijing is similar to creating a Death Star in the science fiction movie Star Wars.
Discussions are underway to see if the Chinese military could establish a missile base on the moon, the Beijing Times reported. A space expert said the Earth's natural satellite could become a giant weapon used as a military base from which missiles could be launched directly at targets on Earth.
The expert also revealed that weapons testing grounds could also be established on the Moon and that Earth's natural satellite could also become a base used to launch spacecraft to explore more distant celestial bodies in space.
Earlier this week, China launched a Long March 3B rocket carrying the Chang’e-3 lunar probe, which is scheduled to land in the Sinus Iridum crater, also known as Rainbow Bay, on the moon on December 14.
The Chang'e-3 probe is designed to explore the lunar surface for 90 days, covering an area of about 5 km. It will also send a probe below the surface and take pictures of rocky terrain and flat areas on Earth's natural satellite.
The mission is a major step forward for China's ambitious space program and is part of the country's plan to build a lunar base to launch probes to Mars within the next 15 years.
