China brazenly established two districts to manage Truong Sa and Hoang Sa.
Chinese media reported that the government has approved the establishment of two districts to manage the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, which are under the indisputable sovereignty of Vietnam.
According to the post ofCGTNOn April 18, China established two districts, Xisha and Nansha, based on the approval of the State Council of this country. Xisha and Nansha are also the names of China for the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, respectively, which are under the indisputable sovereignty of Vietnam.
The new districts will be under the so-called "Sansha city", established by China on Woody Island in the Paracels in 2012 despite protests from Vietnam.
Xisha District will "administer the Xisha and Zhongsha areas (China's name for Scarborough Shoal and Macclesfield Bank near the Philippines' Luzon Island)," according toCGTN.Meanwhile, Nansha District manages the Spratly Islands and surrounding waters and the administrative unit on Vietnam's Cross Reef. This is an entity that China is illegally occupying, militarizing, and converting into an artificial island.

This is the latest move by the Chinese government to complicate the situation in the East Sea. China has brazenly inaugurated two "research stations" on Subi and Cross Reefs in Vietnam's Truong Sa archipelago. In early April, a Chinese coast guard ship also rammed and sank the QNg 90617 TS ship carrying eight Vietnamese fishermen in the Hoang Sa area.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly affirmed that Vietnam has sufficient historical evidence and legal basis to affirm Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in accordance with international law.
"Vietnam demands that China respect Vietnam's sovereignty, not take actions that increase tension, complicate the situation and affect peace and stability in the East Sea and the region. We will make efforts with other countries in the negotiation process of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea between ASEAN and China," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized at a press conference on March 26.
