According to Xinhua News Agency, the Sansha 1 ship left Hainan Island on January 5 to reach Vietnam's Hoang Sa Island area (which China calls Xisha).

“The Sansha 1 ship can operate across the entire South China Sea and reach many islets and reefs in the Dongsha and Nansha island groups,” said Phung Van Hai, deputy mayor of the so-called Sansha city.

The Tam Sa 1 ship is 122m long, 21m wide and has a displacement of up to 7,800 tons. This ship can carry 456 people and carry the equivalent of 20 containers.

The Sansha 1 can also operate for 6,000 nautical miles without needing to dock for refueling and can reach a maximum speed of 35km/h. The ship also has a helicopter landing pad for search and rescue missions.

With the operation of the Sansha 1 ship, the travel time from Hainan Island to Vietnam's Phu Lam Island (where China illegally established the Sansha administration headquarters and called Vinh Hung Island) has been reduced from 15 hours to 10 hours compared to traveling by the Hung Sa 3 ship.

Before the Sansha 1 ship came into operation, there was only one supply ship on the Hainan-Sansha route, the Xiongsha 3, and this ship could only supply necessities such as clean water, food, diesel, and construction materials. Meanwhile, the Sansha 1 ship can carry three times more cargo than the Xiongsha ship.

Previously, in July 2012, China brazenly announced the establishment of Sansha City under the pretext of managing 200 groups of islands, sandbanks and coral reefs in the archipelagos that many countries and territories currently claim sovereignty over./.
