China: Severe punishment for elements of bloody terrorist attack

According to Xinhua News Agency, immediately after a number of knife-wielding attackers attacked the Kunming train station in the capital of Yunnan province, Southwest China, killing at least 29 people and injuring more than 130 others on the evening of March 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping asked law enforcement agencies to investigate and resolve the "terrorist attack."

According to Xinhua News Agency, immediately after a number of knife-wielding attackers attacked the Kunming train station in the capital of Yunnan province, Southwest China, killing at least 29 people and injuring more than 130 others on the evening of March 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping asked law enforcement agencies to investigate and resolve the "terrorist attack."

The leader stressed that the government needs to "severely punish terrorists according to the law."

On the morning of March 2, Meng Jianzhu, Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Commission of the Communist Party of China, went to Kunming to visit the victims and investigate the incident.

He assessed that this was a serious violent terrorist attack causing great loss of life and property; requested timely treatment for the injured and assistance to the victims' families.

Chinese Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun also arrived in Kunming on the same day to direct the investigation.

Also according to Xinjiang separatist forces, the government of Kunming city, the capital of Yunnan province in southwest China, said evidence at the scene showed that the terrorist attack at Kunming train station on the evening of March 1 was orchestrated by Xinjiang separatist forces.

The investigation is still underway. According to the Kunming Railway Authority, trains departing from this station were not affected.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on March 1 also strongly condemned the attack in Kunming and expressed hope that the attackers will be brought to justice./.
