China protests US officials meeting with Tibetan spiritual leader
According to THX, on July 13, China voiced its opposition to the meeting between senior advisor to US President Valerie Jarrett and Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama.
Speaking in a statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said: "China is strongly dissatisfied and opposed to the high-ranking US official meeting with the Dalai Lama."
This statement by Ms. Hua Chunying was made after Ms. Jarrett attended the 80th birthday celebration of the Dalai Lama in New York on July 10.
“We urge the US to honor its commitment to recognizing Tibet as part of China and not supporting ‘Tibet independence,’ and take concrete measures to correct its mistakes,” Hua added. She also urged the US to stop facilitating and supporting “Tibet independence” forces and not let that hinder and harm China-US relations./.
