China increases purchases of fatty pork from Vietnam

On April 8, the Department of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Processing and Salt Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that since after Tet until now, pork prices have tended to increase, especially rapidly in the past few weeks due to China's demand.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Southeast is nearly 50,000 VND/kg, an increase of nearly 10,000 VND/kg compared to the days after Tet. During this time, traders in the Southeast are hunting to collect and export to China dozens of trucks (about 150 pigs/truck) every day, especially pigs over 120 kg/pig (also known as fat pigs).

The reason why China is so attractive for live pigs is because of the high price difference between the two countries. The average price of live pigs in China in March was about 65,000 VND/kg, 20,000 VND/kg higher than the same period last year.

Meanwhile, live pigs shipped from the South to the Northern border cost less than 60,000 VND/kg, traders saw big profits, so they increased purchases. According to forecasts, China's demand for imported live pigs will continue to increase in the coming time.
