China holds live-fire drills in city opposite Taiwan
According to Reuters, on the evening of January 20, China's military television channel reported that a Chinese military unit, stationed in Xiamen city opposite Taiwan island, conducted landing and live-fire drills.

The move comes just days after the pro-independence opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won Taiwan's general election.
The source added that the exercises were conducted in "recent days," but did not disclose the specific location.
The news broadcast images showing amphibious armored vehicles practicing landings, helicopters firing missiles at coastal positions while soldiers parachuted from helicopters.
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense said it was "aware of this information" but declined to comment.
