China announces troop reduction
(Baonghean.vn) - On September 3, before the parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that he would cut 300,000 people from the country's military.

Xi Jinping said China would cut its military by 13 percent. China's military is now the world's largest, with 2.3 million troops.
Xi did not give a specific timeframe for the cuts. Reuters reported that they are likely part of a broader military overhaul that includes spending on high-tech weapons for the navy and air force.
China's military numbers have been cut three times since the 1980s.
