At the Valdai Club, presenting a report entitled "War in a New Era: Why Large Armies Are Returning", Russian Lieutenant General Evgeniy Buzhinsky said: "If the fighting continues at the current intensity, within a maximum of 6 months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be depleted of manpower."

According to Lieutenant General Buzhinsky, in military terms, full mobilization means forcing up to 10% of the country's population to join the front line. According to Buzhinsky, at the beginning of the conflict, Ukraine had about 3 million people. But a significant part of the young population, the most capable people, left Ukraine.

The Russian lieutenant general called the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces "staggering", and the efforts of Ukrainian infantry to overcome dense minefields of Russian troops "double risk".

According to data from the Russian Ministry of Defense, as of early October, the offensive had cost Ukraine more than 90,000 servicemen. In addition, 18,000 pieces of Ukrainian military equipment had been destroyed, including German Leopard tanks, French AMX tanks, British Challenger 2 infantry fighting vehicles, and American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

On October 18, the Russian Defense Ministry said that its units attacked an aviation weapons depot in the Dnepropetrovsk region. This was seen as a response to the fact that on October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that for the first time, the US-made ATACMS missiles were used to attack two Russian air bases (also two airports) on Ukrainian territory currently controlled by Moscow.

Recently, the US has provided ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles to Ukraine. According to the New York Times, the number is up to 20 missiles. ATACMS is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 165km, and is equipped with many small warheads to increase the damage and destruction. This type of missile was "reluctantly" provided by Washington to Kiev, because the US is concerned that providing it to Ukraine could escalate tensions with Moscow.

Because of that concern, the US only sent to Ukraine a version of ATACMS with a shorter range than the maximum distance this missile can reach (it can fly up to 300km).

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that this weapon cannot change the situation on the front line, and even it "only prolongs the pain for Ukraine"./.
