Previously, Nguyen Van Nam, a 12th grade student at Do Luong 1 High School, Do Luong District, while catching birds nearby, heard the cries for help from children on the Lam River flowing through Trung Son Commune - Do Luong. Nam did not hesitate to risk his life to rush into the rushing water to bring the children to safety one by one. Due to exhaustion, he was swept away by the water, leaving behind the endless grief of his family, friends and teachers.

Nghe An Provincial Youth Union has also submitted a proposal to the President to posthumously award the Medal of Bravery to union member Nguyen Van Nam; at the same time, it will conduct a ceremony to launch a campaign to study and follow the brave example of union member Nguyen Van Nam to the young generation of union members and students across the country in the coming time.
