Vinh University builds model of affiliated universities
(Baonghean.vn) - This is a model applied by many major universities in the world. Vietnam currently has Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University that have successfully built this model.
Vinh University, formerly Vinh Pedagogical University, was approved by the Government to be included in the list of national key universities in 2011.
The school trains 50 regular university majors, 37 master's majors, 16 doctoral majors, and has 2 affiliated units: Vinh University High School for the Gifted and the School of Pedagogical Practice.
Currently, Vinh University is following the hierarchical model of School - Institute/Faculty - Department. The vision of the school is to build more training institutes from merged faculties, taking that as a premise to build member universities under a large school, Vinh University.

From now until 2025, the university will establish 6 institutes including: Institute of Natural Education, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Biochemical and Environmental Technology, Institute of Agriculture and Resources, Institute of Social Education, Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities. If all goes well, in the future these 6 institutes will be separated into 6 member universities of Vinh University.
According to the disclosure of Professor, Doctor, Meritorious Teacher Dinh Xuan Khoa - Rector of Vinh University, this is a pilot project that the government has approved for Vinh University and Can Tho University to implement. In Vietnam, the model of member universities under large universities is not much, only built at Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University.
The establishment of affiliated university groups is quite common in the world, especially with famous, prestigious and historical universities. We can mention the famous Sorbonne University in France. In fact, this is a community consisting of 9 universities and 5 research institutes with the abbreviation USPC (Université Sorbonne Paris Cité). Each school focuses on training in a strong field and together create a common reputation for Sorbonne University.

This model aims to build multi-level, multi-disciplinary educational poles while still maintaining consistency in principles, enriching the school's network of relationships with input and output for students.
When it grows strong enough, a large university can recruit more members from universities in other provinces and cities to expand its scale.
