South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted the country's Foreign Ministry as saying on September 11 that the head of the six-party negotiation delegation of South Korea, Mr. Hwang Joon Kook, will visit the US from September 13-18.

The ministry said Mr. Hwang is expected to meet his US counterpart Sung Kim on September 16 to discuss ways to promote the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue and assess the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The heads of the six-party talks between South Korea and the United States will also discuss ways to promote denuclearization dialogue and curb Pyongyang's provocative actions.

In addition, Seoul and Washington will also focus on how South Korea and China will react in case North Korea takes further provocative actions, while seeking ways for Beijing to play a more active role in the North Korean nuclear issue.

The visit took place in the context of experts predicting that Pyongyang will likely conduct a nuclear test or launch a ballistic missile on the occasion of the country's 70th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea on October 10./.
