The Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 was established by the Provincial People's Committee on June 22, 2010. On July 14, 2012, in Nghi An Commune (Vinh City), the Provincial People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony to build a school with a scale of 18 classrooms (540 students), including: school buildings, offices, subject classrooms, sports halls, dormitories, dining halls, public houses, libraries, traditional stilt houses and other auxiliary works with a total area of nearly 13,000m2; the total investment cost is over 137 billion VND from the Central budget under the National Target Program on Education and Training and the local budget. While waiting for the completion of the construction of the facilities, the School has determined to put the school into operation soon by temporarily borrowing the facilities of Nghe An Pedagogical College.

Joining the jubilant atmosphere of millions of students across the country, 150 10th graders who are ethnic minorities from mountainous districts of the province attended the opening ceremony of the first course of the 2012-2013 school year. After beating the drum to open the school year, comrade Le Van Ngo - Director of the Department of Education and Training spoke, wishing: While waiting for the new school to be built, the staff, teachers and students of the school need to overcome the immediate difficulties, stabilize teaching, create the best conditions to meet the learning needs of the students, contribute to training human resources, serve the socio-economic development, security and defense for the mountainous areas of Nghe An.
On this occasion, the School launched the emulation movement "good teaching, good learning" for the 2012-2013 school year.
