Dien Tan Secondary School: Deserving of the title of a national standard school.
(Baonghean) - In the early days of September, amidst the nationwide preparations for the start of the new school year, we had the opportunity to visit the school that has just been recognized as meeting national standards (Dien Tan Secondary School, Dien Chau district) to hear stories about the persistent learning and studious tradition of generations of teachers and students at the school...
Established in September 1971, Dien Tan Junior High School has gone through many historical periods. During the fierce bombing campaign by the US imperialists in the North, Dien Tan Junior High School, a key location for railway traffic and the 9-foundation bridge, was frequently bombed. Despite the bombing, the school's management maintained teaching and learning by dividing classes and rooms, setting up simple thatched huts in semi-submerged areas of neighboring communes, and organizing night classes. At that time, the school's facilities were extremely difficult, with only 8 classrooms built in the style of single-story thatched-roof buildings. In 1979, the school added 8 more classrooms, and from the 1992-1996 school year, it merged with Dien Thinh Junior High School, taking the name Dien Thinh Primary and Secondary School. In the 1996-1997 school year, Dien Thinh Primary and Secondary School split into two schools: Dien Tan Junior High School and Dien Thinh Junior High School. Subsequently, Dien Tan Junior High School was re-established according to Decision No. 2998/QD/UB dated August 22, 1996, of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, under the name Dien Tan Junior High School.

Over more than 50 years of striving and growth, generations of teachers and students at Dien Tan Secondary School have contributed to a rich history of achievements. Particularly in the new phase, from the 2012-2013 school year to the present, in response to the Ministry of Education and Training's "Two No's" campaign, the school has focused on overcoming the problem of excessive emphasis on achievements in education, maintaining indicators of educational quality in two aspects, maintaining student numbers, and preventing student dropouts. The school invests and focuses on three main areas: improving educational quality; investing in the construction of facilities and teaching equipment; and creating a green, clean, and beautiful environment. Accordingly, to improve educational quality, the school focuses on rectifying discipline and promoting improvements in teaching methods, innovating assessment methods, and emphasizing regular training to enhance the teaching capacity, professional conduct, and ethics of its staff and teachers.
Every year, the school consistently directs and implements various educational activities such as vocational guidance, extracurricular activities, and life skills education for students through a combination of in-class and extracurricular methods, both during and outside of class hours. The focus is on nurturing gifted students and providing remedial instruction for weak students in all grades, especially in Mathematics, Literature, and English, right from the beginning of the school year. Simultaneously, numerous emulation movements are launched among teachers and students, resulting in a significant improvement in student quality. Students with good or excellent moral conduct achieve a high percentage, exceeding 90%. From a school that initially ranked among the "lowest-performing areas in the district" in terms of overall quality and a high percentage of weak students, the school has, through strong unity and a determined will to continuously innovate and achieve standards, consistently producing many outstanding students at the district and provincial levels for the past three years. Specifically, the school had 88 students who excelled at the district level and 6 students who excelled at the provincial level. Notably, in the 2013-2014 school year, the school had 3 students who excelled at the provincial level, most notably Hoang Thi Tam, who achieved the top score in Literature in the entire province, further enhancing the school's glorious tradition.

| A view of Dien Tan Secondary School (Dien Chau). |
Regarding the management staff, there is one principal and two vice-principals, all three meeting the required standards. Throughout their leadership and management, they have effectively implemented democratic principles within the institution, always demonstrating initiative, dynamism, creativity, and a willingness to learn. They have been rated highly by their direct educational management, and have received the title of "Outstanding Emulation Soldier" at the grassroots level for many years. With a total of 39 teachers, 100% of them meet or exceed the required qualifications, with 34 out of 39 teachers exceeding the standard (87.2%). 22 out of 39 teachers are recognized as excellent teachers at various levels (56.41%), including 4 teachers recognized as excellent teachers at the provincial level. 100% of teachers are rated as "good" or higher according to professional standards. The accounting, administrative, library, equipment, medical, and security staff ensure the smooth operation of the school.
From a school with inadequate facilities, thanks to the attention of various levels and sectors, it has now become spacious and meets standards: The school has a separate campus, surrounded by a fence, with an area of 9,683 m2, averaging 20.5 m2/student. The structure of the school buildings is arranged rationally, scientifically, cleanly, and airily. The classroom area includes 16 classrooms. The subject-specific classrooms include: a Physics-Technology room, a Biology-Chemistry room with complete standard experimental equipment and supplies, a computer room with 20 computers connected to the Internet, and a library recognized as meeting national standards. There is a traditional room, a music room, a medical room, and offices for organizations and associations, all equipped according to regulations. There are playgrounds, sports fields, a parking area for staff, teachers, and students; and a clean water system and sanitary facilities that meet regulations. In the 2014-2015 school year, the school won first prize in the district-wide competition for "Beautiful Secondary School" with 96.25 points.
Mr. Thai Doan Trang, the school principal, shared: "Identifying the construction of a national standard school as one of the important tasks aimed at standardization, modernization, and socialization to create conditions that ensure the improvement of educational quality; gradually affirming the school's brand in the educational process. At the same time, this is a goal included in the school network planning, an important part of the implementation of the National Target Program for building new rural areas in the locality. Based on this understanding, the Party branch and the school's management board always pay attention to the goal of building a standard school..."
Hopefully, with its tradition of valuing education, Dien Tan Secondary School will continue to affirm its achievements in the field of education, live up to the trust and affection of the local Party Committee and people, and deserve to be recognized as a national standard school.
