(Baonghean) - Do Luong 1 High School (Nghe An) currently has 40 classes with nearly 2,000 students. In recent years, the amount of daily chemical waste has increased significantly compared to before. According to teacher Nguyen Thi Kieu Huong, principal of the school, in the past, partly due to subjectivity and awareness, and partly due to the small amount of chemical waste, the school did not pay attention to treatment to protect the environment. In recent years, the issue of chemical waste treatment has received great attention from the school.

Two years ago, the school invested 60 million VND to build a septic tank and install a pipeline system to treat chemical waste after laboratory and practice hours. Regarding the technical part, the school asked the professional staff of Nghe An Book - School Equipment Joint Stock Company to advise and supervise the construction process. The septic tank was solidly built, nearly 4m deep, 40cm thick around the edges (twice as thick as a septic tank of a septic tank), ensuring no environmental pollution, because chemical waste cannot seep horizontally but only seeps deep into the soil below the bottom of the tank.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Huong, the school's principal, added: "In addition to chemical waste, there are also quite a lot of unusable chemical bottles at Do Luong 1 High School. Keeping them in the warehouse forever will be very dangerous, because if there is an accident and the chemical bottle breaks, we don't know what the consequences will be, because among them, there are many extremely toxic substances, many flammable and explosive substances. We can't leave them like that forever. Recently, after discussing with the Chemistry teachers, the school hired someone to bury them.

The burial site was far from residential areas, at the foot of a hill in the mountainous area bordering Thanh Chuong district. Everything was packed into three sacks, covered with many layers of plastic, and buried in a hole over 3 meters deep. Although someone was hired to do it, the burial and destruction process was directly supervised by the school's teachers to avoid any mistakes.

I am not a chemistry expert, but I think the way Do Luong 1 High School handles chemical waste and destroys chemicals that are no longer usable is a good way, because it has received advice from professional staff and chemistry teachers. I would like to write it down here with the hope that other schools can refer to it and do the same.
