In order to meet the educational development requirements of the western communes of Nghi Loc district, in the fall of 1965, the People's Committee of Nghe An province decided to establish Nghi Loc 2 High School. The school is located in the Ru Cho - Gieng Vay area of ​​Nghi Phuong commune with 4 classes, 193 students, including one 10th grade class with 40 students, one 9th grade class with 37 students and two 8th grade classes with 116 students. The teaching staff has 21 teachers with Mr. Nguyen Van Duyen as Principal. Born in the fire of war, the study of teachers and students was extremely difficult and always faced with danger, especially when the US imperialists escalated their attacks on the North. Classes always had to change locations to avoid enemy bombs.

At the beginning of the 1966-1967 school year, in the face of the fierce war situation, key areas such as bridges, roads, food warehouses, and densely populated areas were increasingly attacked, so the school's Board of Directors decided to divide the school into 2 branches: Branch 1 was located on the west side of Phuong Tich bridge, including students from Nghi Phuong, Nghi Dong, Nghi Hung, Nghi Cong, Nghi My, Nghi Lam, Nghi Van, Nghi Kieu, Hung Trung communes, studying at the old facility. Branch 2 included students from Nghi Hoa, Nghi Thuan, Nghi Dien, Nghi Van, Nghi Yen, Nghi Tien, Nghi Thiet communes and students from Vinh city evacuated to Con Chim hill, Nghi Dien commune.

During this period, the school performed the task of teaching and learning while fighting to protect the country. Thousands of teachers and students said goodbye to school and went to the front line, dedicating their youth to the cause of national liberation. During the great resistance war of the nation, 131 students of the school heroically sacrificed their lives, 1011 people had to leave part of their bodies, blood and bones on the battlefield, becoming wounded and sick soldiers.

In 1969, Nghi Loc 2 High School moved to the mountainous area of ​​Nghi My commune. This is a mountainous area with ancient forests. After receiving support from the Nghi My Commune People's Committee with excavators to create a flat surface for two rows of ground-floor houses, teachers and students of the school had to take turns scooping sand and gravel, pouring slabs to build level 4 houses for teaching and learning. With the mission of both studying culture and educating labor, studying and working, teachers and students joined hands to contribute with the people in the area where the school was located to work and produce together. Tree planting sessions in Nghi Kieu; rice production at Nghi Van Seed Farm; road building and ditch digging in Nghi Phuong really left many unforgettable memories in the hearts of each student and teacher...

During the period 1979 - 1992, despite the difficult circumstances for many different reasons, teachers and students of the school still tried to teach well and study well. There was even a time when the school only had 5 high school classes, and only 28 students in grade 10, but with dynamism, creativity, diligence, and promoting the tradition of the land of learning, Nghi Loc 2 High School still gradually rose up and achieved many high achievements. Most notably, the school was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the Party and the State.

Many students of the school have made their homeland famous, many former students have become generals holding important positions in the country. Many former students of the school have become leaders at all levels from the central to local levels.

From 1996 to 2015, Nghi Loc 2 High School entered a period of stability and development. This was clearly demonstrated in terms of the increasing number of students along with the quality of teaching. At its peak, the school had three education systems: Public, Semi-public and Cultural Supplementary with the number of students up to 2,600 students, 58 classes. This was also the period marking the new development steps of the school in mobilizing resources to build facilities. From simple level 4 houses, the school has gradually built spacious, modern high-rise buildings with full multi-functional classrooms, computer practice rooms, foreign languages, libraries, experimental gardens, etc.

In 2006, the school's second branch was separated to form Nghi Loc 5 High School. The school's size has been reduced, but the quality of teaching and learning, management, and staff and teachers have continued to improve and are truly becoming a bright spot in the province's education with outstanding achievements such as graduating students, university students - students with high scores in university entrance exams honored by the province, and excellent students of the province. There were years when the school's students won 2 first prizes, 7 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 8 consolation prizes, ranking second only to Phan Boi Chau Specialized School in terms of total medals.

From the 2005-2006 school year up to now, the school has 2 first prizes for excellent students in the province, 47 second prizes, 91 third prizes and 103 consolation prizes; 1 student won the National IMO Bronze Medal, 2 others won the National IOE Bronze Medal; 2 consolation prizes for Science and Technology Innovation... In particular, there are students with especially difficult circumstances who have achieved excellent results and won the top prize, students honored by the province such as: Pham Thi Lien in Nghi Dong commune, Nguyen Duc Tai in Nghi Lam commune, Nguyen The Hieu in Nghi Phuong commune, Nguyen Thi Oanh in Nghi My commune... Currently, the school is ranked 24th out of 92 high schools in Nghe An province; Ranked 642nd out of all high schools nationwide in terms of university entrance exam scores. During this period, the school was awarded 1 Second Class Labor Medal and 1 Third Class Labor Medal by the President.

Nghi Loc 2 High School always determines to build a team of teachers who are both red and specialized to meet the increasing requirements of teaching and learning. Currently, the school has 80 teachers and staff, all of whom are qualified and above standard, including 15 masters, 17 provincial excellent teachers, 15 provincial and industry-level experience initiatives.
