Nguyen Truong To High School - A bright spot in the private education model

(Baonghean) - On November 13, 1990, the People's Committee of Nghe An province signed a decision to establish the private high school named after the cultural celebrity Nguyen Truong To in Vinh city - the first non-public high school in the country. During its operation, generations of staff, teachers and students here have strived to continuously develop the school, contributing to the cause of socializing education in the province...

Recalling the early days of operation (school year 1988 - 1989) while waiting for the official decision to establish, the school had to rent classrooms, first at the Provincial Continuing Education Center, then the Biology Department (old) of Vinh Pedagogical University in Hung Binh Ward, then rented rooms at the City Continuing Education Center. In 1992, the school took over a part of the Traditional Medicine Hospital with several rows of level 4 working buildings that had been repaired to make temporary classrooms. Along with that, equipment and supplies for teaching and learning were lacking and inconsistent.

The facilities are like that, and the school's teaching staff, in addition to experienced retired teachers, are specialists from the Department of Education and Training who used to be good teachers, who are often busy with professional work, so classes often have to be canceled because these teachers have to go on business trips, attend meetings... Most of the students entering the school are average, below average and weak, most of them are from poor families, in difficult circumstances. According to Mr. Hoang Ky - the first Vice Principal of the school: "In those days, students lived far away and in many different areas, communication was not as convenient as it is now, so every time they had to change their study location, both teachers and students had a hard time...".

In the midst of many difficulties and shortages, but with a love for the profession, the school's teachers have worked together, step by step bringing the school into order and improving the quality of education. Gradually, when the number of students and teachers has stabilized, teachers, students and parents have contributed to building a spacious facility in an area of ​​about 12,000m2, including 2 3-storey buildings, 1 2-storey building with a total of 30 spacious rooms, fully equipped with lighting systems, ceiling fans, traditional rooms, library, 3 laboratories: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, 3 computer rooms) and 8 working rooms for leaders, mass organizations, and professional groups.

The playground system ensures sufficient space. The quality of teaching and learning has changed rapidly. There are many teachers who have grown up and later moved to higher positions, such as: Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi - Provincial Party Committee member, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training; Dr. Nguyen Anh Duong - Vice Principal of Vinh University's Specialized School; Master Nguyen Thi My Hang, Faculty of Mathematics, Vinh University; Master Phan Minh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of Vinh City Party Committee... Many other teachers who have been attached to the school and the class have teaching experience, are dedicated, and guide students from weak, poor to average, from average to good and good to excellent, achieving many high achievements, leaving a good impression in the hearts of generations of students and parents.

To improve the quality of teaching and learning, in addition to improving facilities, the school focuses on building and improving the quality of the team. Currently, 100% of the school's teaching staff meet the standards of training qualifications, including 24 teachers with master's degrees; the party and trade union organizations operate effectively and strongly. By focusing on innovating teaching and learning methods, the school has created conditions for all teachers to participate in training courses, develop sample lectures, sample lesson plans, and observe sample classes with high quality criteria; persistently implementing the goal of building a school: order, discipline, honesty, fairness, compassion, encouraging creativity, efficiency and affirming the decisive position of teachers in the school's educational innovation career.
