Vietnam - England Secondary School: Many teachers do not meet standards
(Baonghean) - Viet-Anh Secondary School was established in 2007, is a non-public school, located in Quan Bau ward, Vinh city. Viet-Anh School is considered one of the most modern, among non-public vocational schools in the province. In addition to facilities, the number of students enrolled in 2 faculties, 4 majors of the school is quite large. However, recently, there have been many opinions that the school's teaching staff is not commensurate with the school's current facilities.
Regarding this issue, the inspection team of Nghe An Department of Education and Training came to work and concluded: Viet Anh Secondary School has 48 classes with 2,716 students, but only 77 teachers (69 permanent teachers, 8 guest teachers). Compared to regulations, there are departments such as Medicine and Pharmacy with only 29 teachers, still lacking 20 teachers. There is still a shortage of teachers according to standards, the whole school only has 13 masters, 6 people are studying for a master's degree; 22 teachers do not have a certificate of pedagogical skills (15 permanent teachers, 7 guest teachers); 2 teachers with intermediate level, 4 teachers with college level. Due to the lack of teachers, the school has arranged teachers to teach in the wrong major: teachers who graduated from pedagogical Biology must teach Anatomy and Physiology; teachers with college level nursing must teach basic Medicine; teachers with only intermediate level are also arranged to teach intermediate level...
Overview of Vietnam - England Secondary School
Explaining this issue, Mr. Phan Huy Hoang, Vice Principal of the school, said: At the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the school, there are currently 4 technicians with intermediate qualifications. We do not call them teachers but only technicians, because these people prepare the techniques and chemicals for the teachers to teach. Technicians only participate in guiding students in practice. In addition, our school also invites many leading doctors to teach at the school. However, if a certificate is required, many people do not have it, so we invite them to teach and study to issue certificates at the school.
In the 2010 school year, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training assigned the Viet-Anh College 1,000 enrollment targets. In 2011, the school was assigned 1,800 targets and enrolled nearly 50%. Along with training according to the prescribed program, the Viet-Anh College has introduced communication skills and life skills into teaching for students with the motto of not only training for a career but also cultivating ethics and personality for students. However, to achieve these goals, the school management agencies and the Viet-Anh College itself need to have positive solutions to promptly overcome the shortcomings in the teaching staff, in order to ensure the quality of training.
