Posthumously awarding the Medal of Courage and launching a movement to learn from the example of Nguyen Van Nam
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of May 13, at Do Luong I High School (Do Luong district), the Provincial People's Committee, Provincial Youth Union, and Department of Education and Training organized a ceremony to award the President's "Bravery Medal" and launch a movement for Nghe An youth to learn and follow the example of Youth Union member Nguyen Van Nam, who bravely sacrificed himself to save five children from drowning.
Attending the ceremony were comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; provincial departments and branches, leaders of Do Luong district and all teachers and students of Do Luong I High School.
As reported, on the afternoon of April 30, Nguyen Van Nam, a 12th grade student at Do Luong 1 High School, was catching birds when he heard the cries for help from children who were bathing and had an accident in the whirlpool of Lam River, through Trung Son Commune, Do Luong District. Not afraid of danger, Nguyen Van Nam jumped into the river to save 5 children from death. When he brought the last child to shore, he was exhausted and was swept away by the whirlpool. His body was not found until 5:00 p.m. the same day.

At the ceremony, delegates, teachers and all students of Do Luong I High School conducted rituals to commemorate Nguyen Van Nam, review his efforts and training, and share the great loss with his family. In particular, to acknowledge his brave and selfless act of saving 5 children from drowning, on May 8, the President issued Decision No. 832 to posthumously award the "Bravery Medal" to Nguyen Van Nam. This is a noble reward, a recognition from the Party and State leaders for the brave and selfless sacrifice of union member Nguyen Van Nam to save the victims.

At the ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Dinh Hung - Member of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union called on the youth of the whole province to study and follow the example of Youth Union member Nguyen Van Nam; strive to cultivate morality, study enthusiastically to achieve the highest achievements; build and foster solidarity, humanity, live with courage, culture, have a sense of responsibility to society, love and share with those around them; actively respond and take the initiative in implementing movements to develop the economy - society, protect the Fatherland.

Also on the morning of May 13, all schools in the province launched a movement to study and follow the example of union member Nguyen Van Nam.
On this occasion, the Youth Development Support Fund, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee awarded 5 million VND to support Nguyen Van Nam's family; TH True Milk Group awarded 20 million VND, completed procedures to take care of Nguyen Van Nam's mother for life and committed to creating conditions to support employment for his sister.
