On the evening of April 28, speaking to reporters, the leader of the People's Committee of An Binh Commune, Van Yen District (Yen Bai) said that a very serious murder case had just occurred in the area, leaving two people dead. The initial cause was determined to be a land dispute.

The identities of the two deceased victims were Mr. Dang Van Xuyen (born in 1975) and Ms. Dang Thi Nhung (born in 1980). The two victims were siblings and lived in the center of An Binh commune, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province.

"The case is currently being investigated by Van Yen district police in coordination with Yen Bai province police and other relevant agencies. As of 7 p.m., the autopsy is still taking place," said the leader of An Binh commune People's Committee.

According to witnesses at the scene, at around 2:30 p.m. the same day, Mr. Dang Van Xuyen and Ms. Dang Thi Nhung went to the land of a person named Nguyen Van M. (which had been in dispute before) to dig the land to plant crops, when Nguyen Van M. rushed out, shouted loudly, and then used a sword to slash Mr. Xuyen and Ms. Nhung.

As a result, Mr. Xuyen was slashed many times on his body and died on the spot. Mrs. Nhung died on the way to the hospital.

Speaking privately to reporters at the scene of the incident, an investigator from Van Yen district police said that immediately after causing the massacre, suspect Nguyen Van M. fled the scene.

"According to collected documents, Nguyen Van M. and the two victims have a family relationship. Specifically, M.'s ex-wife named X. is the older sister of Mr. Xuyen and Ms. Nhung. Previously, when M. and his wife first got married, the wife's family gave the couple a piece of land to build a house to live on. But after Nguyen Van M. returned from prison and divorced Ms. X., the couple's land became a disputed area. The climax led to the heartbreaking incident today," informed a police officer of Van Yen district.

According to the Van Yen district police officer, suspect Nguyen Van M. was once imprisoned for 17 years for intentionally causing injury or harming the health of others. During his sentence, Nguyen Van M. also beat one person to death in prison.
