US media: Israel will respond to Iran as soon as April 15
(Baonghean.vn) - The Wall Street Journal quoted US officials and other Western countries as saying that Israel could respond to Iran's attack as soon as April 15.
According to RIA Novosti on April 15, the Wall Street Journal (USA) reported: "US and Western officials expect Israel to react quickly to Iran's attacks, possibly as soon as Monday, April 15."
The Wall Street Journal did not name specific officials, but quoted a senior member of US President Joe Biden's administration as saying that, in a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the US leader tried to dissuade Israel from reacting hastily to Iran's attack.
"I think President Joe Biden has discussed trying to slow things down, think things through, based on what we've been through," the Wall Street Journal quoted a senior US administration official as saying.
Earlier, Kan 11 TV channel reported that Israel was ready to immediately counterattack Iran, but at least postponed the operation after a call from US President Joe Biden.
In a phone call between the US and Israeli leaders shortly after Iran attacked Tel Aviv, President Joe Biden told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would not support Israeli attacks in retaliation for Tehran's launch of a series of missiles and drones into Israel.
President Biden and his administration are "deeply concerned" that any tit-for-tat action could spark a regional war with "catastrophic consequences."
In response to those concerns, President Biden reportedly told Prime Minister Netanyahu that Israel had essentially prevailed in this confrontation with Iran and had “won.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli Prime Minister admitted that he understood that any retaliatory action would not be supported by the US.
Iran's war cabinet met on April 14 to determine the country's response to Iran's unprecedented airstrike late on April 13.
