From April 1, there will be competition on the Thong Nhat train route.

According to Vietnam Railway Corporation, from April 1, Thong Nhat trains will be divided into SE trains for two units, Hanoi and Saigon Railway Passenger Transport Company, to build their own brands.

This division will create equal competition to improve the quality of train passenger service. Accordingly, Hanoi Railway Passenger Transport Company will manage and operate trains SE1/2 and SE5/6; Saigon Railway Passenger Transport Company will manage and operate trains SE3/4 and SE7/8. Thus, each Company will be in charge of two trains, one departing during the day and one departing at night.

To facilitate and not affect passengers as well as operators, the Corporation will unify the management and issuance of train ticket prices, and assign management companies to sell tickets in both directions of train brands. In case of unusual incidents such as storms, floods, traffic jams or special transport trips to serve transportation, national security, summer, Tet ... the organization of passenger transport will be carried out according to current regulations and decisions of Vietnam Railways.

According to Vietnam Railways Corporation, in recent times, some stations and trains have become favorite and memorable brands for passengers. Train brands such as NA1/2 (Hanoi-Vinh), SQN1/2 (Saigon-Quy Nhon), SH1/2 (Saigon-Hue)... have occupied their positions and increasingly increased their influence in the passenger transport market in the South. Some local passenger trains have higher ticket prices than car tickets on the same route but are still chosen by passengers.

Train pairs NA1/2, SQN1/2... have "attracted" passengers from other means of transport and created a stable daily flow of passengers, increasing on weekends and peaking during long holidays (summer, holidays, Tet...). This shows that these train brands have become brands and entered the "memory" of passengers. However, the revenue from these trains is only modest, accounting for a large proportion of output, the revenue from passenger transport of the Corporation is still Thong Nhat trains.
