From October 6, Hanoians will take the bus using electronic tickets.
On the morning of September 16, the Hanoi Department of Transport and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) installed a pilot electronic monthly ticket system for bus route 06 (Giap Bat-Cau Gie). According to the plan, this electronic ticket system will be put into operation from October 6.
According to Mr. Kubo Yoshitomo, representative of JICA Office in Vietnam, currently, the number of passengers using monthly tickets accounts for about 70% of the total number of passengers on the entire network, while ticket sales management and financial reporting takes a lot of time, tickets can be counterfeited because they are made of paper, and must be checked and monitored. Therefore, the pilot implementation of electronic monthly tickets will help operate the bus system effectively, determine service quality as well as understand the needs of passengers.
The JICA representative said that the project will issue 200,000 electronic tickets for monthly bus passengers. Passengers using this type of ticket can register their information and receive electronic tickets at the ticket counter without any fee.

Phase 1 will equip all card issuing equipment for 2 transit points in Long Bien and Cau Giay; equip card renewal equipment for 42 monthly ticket selling points across the network.
In this phase, bus route 06 will be selected to install a fixed card reader on the bus to control tickets. At the same time, build a management software system. Implementation time is within 15 months.
Phase two will expand the installation of equipment to the entire city bus system. The Department of Transport plans to implement it after 2015.
