(Baonghean.vn)- On December 18, Vinh city held a traditional meeting to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 68th anniversary of the tradition of Vinh city's armed forces.

Attending the meeting were Major General Le Van Cuong, former director of the Institute for Strategic Studies, Ministry of Public Security, comrade Vo Viet Thanh, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee, leaders of Vinh city, leaders of city departments and branches, and senior military officers of all periods currently living and working in Vinh city.

Along with the growth of the Vietnam People's Army, the Vinh City Armed Forces were established early on December 18, 1946, overcoming countless difficulties and hardships, and in all revolutionary periods successfully fulfilling the tasks that the Party Committee and the people of the city trusted. During the two sacred resistance wars of the nation, the People's Armed Forces highly promoted the spirit of intelligence, courage, flexibility, relying on the people to fight, study, and achieve many glorious feats, contributing to glorifying the history of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.

During the period of national construction, the city's armed forces always completed local military and defense tasks, promoted the spirit of labor, were trusted by the people, and contributed to maintaining political security and social order and safety in the city.

Currently, the whole city of Vinh has 14,628 veterans, including 130 parishioners. The vast majority of veterans actively participate in activities and social organizations, continuing to contribute their strength and intelligence to build their homeland; they are also exemplary forces, leading in crime prevention movements, contributing to various funds and fees, and building cultural life in residential areas. In particular, veteran members at all levels have donated nearly 60,000 square meters of land, worth tens of billions of VND, along with thousands of working days, contributing to the construction of new rural areas in the city...

At the meeting, comrade Vo Viet Thanh affirmed that the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 25th National Defense Day and the 68th anniversary of the Vinh City Armed Forces' tradition day are occasions to review the glorious historical tradition and heroic feats of our army and people. Thereby, arousing national pride, enhancing patriotism, self-reliance, overcoming all difficulties and challenges, striving to build a strong national defense, building a regular, elite, gradually modern Vietnam People's Army, meeting the requirements of tasks in the new stage of the revolution, making an important contribution to the cause of building and firmly defending the Vietnamese Fatherland.

Also at the meeting, delegates listened to Major General Le Van Cuong speak and update some issues on economics, society, and domestic and international news.
