After more than 1 year of research, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, owner of Muoi Thuan mechanical facility (Dang Phong hamlet, Thanh Binh commune, Cho Gao district, Tien Giang) has successfully invented the "2-in-1 self-propelled straw rolling machine", which is superior to some straw rolling machines currently on the market.

Graduated from Bao Loc Mechanical College (Lam Dong) in 1986, majoring in agricultural mechanics, after working at the Department of Agricultural Mechanics and then the Tien Giang Province Food Mechanics Enterprise, in 1994, he established Muoi Thuan Mechanical Facility, specializing in manufacturing and installing horizontal rice dryers, repairing all kinds of agricultural machines. Recently, realizing that the demand for horizontal rice dryers is almost saturated, he intended to switch to researching and manufacturing some equipment and machinery for the agricultural sector. Realizing that in Cho Gao district, including Thanh Binh commune, the area of ​​land for rice cultivation is still quite large. After harvesting rice, farmers often collect straw by hand (or sell it to people to use as mushrooms, animal feed, etc.), which is both time-consuming and requires a lot of transportation and loading.

Being encouraged by his cousin who is living in the Netherlands and sent some photos of straw rolling machines manufactured in some European countries, he started to research. After more than 1 year of research, testing and retesting many times, in April 2015, he successfully invented the "2-in-1 self-propelled straw rolling machine" and put it into trial operation in some newly harvested winter-spring rice fields in Thanh Binh commune. The machine has 3 main parts, including: Engine (using a 20 HP cemetery combine harvester engine) and frame processed by him; straw rolling part including roller shaft and conveyor belt; straw pressing part into rolls, tying rope and releasing straw processed and manufactured by him. It is known that Mr. Thuan submitted the profile "Self-propelled straw rolling machine 2 in 1" to participate in the 11th Tien Giang Province Technical Innovation Contest, 2014-2015, organized by the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations in coordination with relevant Departments and branches. Compared to some straw rolling machines currently on the market, the straw rolling machine he invented has outstanding features such as: Firstly, because the straw rolling shaft is arranged in the front (other machines are arranged behind the rubber wheel), the straw is rolled in without being tangled or stuck with mud. Secondly, because the machine is designed to run on a crawler (instead of a rubber wheel), it can operate in swampy conditions, can collect wet straw after the late summer-autumn crop, and can be used to grow mushrooms, compost tree roots, vegetables, etc., and help clean the fields, prepare the soil and sow the winter-spring crop.

That is the outstanding "2 in 1" feature of this machine. Mr. Thuan said that the trial operation of the machine gave very positive results. The machine can create tightly compressed straw rolls that look very beautiful, weighing 19 - 20 kg/roll (60 cm diameter, 70 cm long); in 8 - 10 hours, the machine can roll straw in a field of up to 2 hectares (dry land). Because it mainly uses domestic spare parts and some recycled materials, the price of the machine is acceptable. According to Mr. Thuan's calculation, after completion, the machine will be sold for 120 million VND (less than 50% compared to the same type of machine made in Japan). After the trial operation, some farmers in the commune have expressed their interest in ordering the straw rolling machine he invented.

Master Huynh Van Loc, Faculty of Engineering - Technology, Tien Giang University, is one of two effective collaborators (along with engineer Dang Ngoc Thai) of Mr. Thuan in the process of making the invention. Mr. Loc said: "Just need to complete some final steps such as adjusting the control part of the straw tying and cutting process; completing the hydraulic pump to close and open the lid of the straw rolling part and automatically release the finished straw, the "Self-propelled 2-in-1 straw rolling machine" invented by Mr. Thuan will be completed and can be sold to customers in need"...
