US Pacific Army Commander visits Vietnam

On the afternoon of January 19, in Hanoi, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, received General Vincent Brooks, Commander of the US Pacific Army, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, General Vincent Brooks announced the results of the previous working session between the Pacific Army Command and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army Vo Van Tuan.

The two sides discussed a number of issues on strengthening relations between the two armies, in line with the spirit of comprehensive partnership; assessed the results of cooperation between the two armies on the basis of the "Memorandum of Understanding on promoting bilateral defense cooperation" signed in 2011 and future cooperation directions such as humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, military medicine, and sharing experiences in building a United Nations peacekeeping force.

Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty said that the establishment of a comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the US is the basis for developing bilateral defense cooperation to a new level, becoming more practical and effective. Agreeing with the results of the work between the two delegations, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty suggested that the two countries' Army forces continue to increase delegation exchanges at all levels, and deepen cooperation in the fields of information exchange; sharing experience in search and rescue at sea; English training for Vietnamese soldiers; and overcoming post-war consequences.
