(Baonghean.vn) To help the Dan Lai people in the core area of Pu Mat National Park, Con Cuong district, develop their economy, culture and society, the Party Committee of Border Guard Station 555 (Mon Son) Con Cuong has implemented the model: "Border Guard Party members help poor households develop their economy". Since its implementation, it has been effective in gradually helping the people here to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and build increasingly prosperous villages.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Minh - Political Commissar of Mon Son Border Post said: Implementing the plan to preserve and develop the Dan Lai ethnic minority in the core area of Pu Mat National Park, Con Cuong district, helping people develop the economy, culture and society, the unit has deployed 2 working groups in Bung village and Co Phat village, each group has 6 officers, in addition to the task of ensuring security and defense in the border area, each officer in the working group is assigned to help 4-5 households in the village develop the economy. Party members and border guards of the Post must implement the motto "4 together" with the people, instructing households to change their awareness from family activities, maintaining personal hygiene, eating cooked food and drinking boiled water to applying technical improvements to production...
Border guards help Dan Lai people weed rice.
The family of Mrs. La Thi Ky is a typical example. Like many other Dan Lai families in Co Phat village, her family was directly instructed by party member Major Tran Xuan Yen on how to make a living by using new methods of growing wet rice, raising buffalo and cows in the way of lowland people, and growing grass and bananas around the garden to serve the raising of livestock and poultry such as pigs, chickens, etc.
Now, Mrs. Ky's family is not only one of the typical nuclear families in the economic development of Co Phat village, but also the family with the largest area of rice and vegetable cultivation in the village. From the model of Mrs. La Thi Ky's family, many other families in Co Phat village have learned and followed suit. They have known how to apply science and technology to production, and know how to take advantage of the land's strengths to develop the economy through farm and hill garden models.
Talking to us, Major Tran Xuan Yen, a member of the border guards of Co Phat village, said: For the Dan Lai people, there is no more effective propaganda than seeing and hearing; combining with the border guards to guide them, the members of the working group have coordinated with the locality to do a good job of promoting agricultural and forestry propaganda. Previously, people were not familiar with growing rice and sowing corn seeds. Now, the officers of the working group have directly guided them, going down to the fields to help people plow, harrow, prepare the soil, fertilize, soak and incubate seeds, care for and weed rice in two crops according to the planting schedule, so the rice yield is twice as high as before. Co Phat village alone has now developed more than 8 hectares of rice fields, many households have learned to develop livestock and poultry farming, gradually eliminating hunger and reducing poverty.
In addition to supporting families in economic development, border party members have had the opportunity to propagate and mobilize people to eliminate backward customs, develop socio-economy, and contribute to strengthening national defense and security. Strengthening the close relationship between the army and the people is the fulcrum to consolidate and build the great solidarity bloc of ethnic groups in the highland border areas.
