According to information from gas trading companies, from May 1, domestic retail gas prices will increase from 3,300 to 8,000 VND/12 kg cylinder, depending on the type of gas.

The main reason is that the average world CP gas price for delivery in May 2014 was 817.50 USD, an increase of 10 USD/ton compared to April 2014.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Do Trung Thanh, Deputy Head of Gas Business Department - Ho Chi Minh City Petroleum Company Limited (Saigon Petro) said: Since 7:30 a.m. on May 1, 2014, the retail price of SP gas increased by 667 VND/kg (including value added tax), equivalent to an increase of 8,000 VND/12 kg cylinder compared to the first gas price announced in early April.

In Hanoi, Mr. Pham Anh Tu, Deputy Head of Direct Sales Department of Petrolimex Gas Company - Hanoi Branch, said: From May 1, 2014, the company's retail gas price will increase by 275 VND/kg (after tax), equivalent to an increase of 3,300 VND/12 kg cylinder. Accordingly, the average retail price of Petrolimex Gas Company - Hanoi Branch is 407,000 VND/12 kg cylinder and 1,599,800 VND/48 kg cylinder.

Thus, this is the first time domestic gas prices have increased after four downward adjustments.
