Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh said the Vietnam Film Week is the first cultural activity of Vietnam in Sri Lanka since the Embassy was re-established last April. Three of the five Vietnamese films screened this time are about war and have won domestic and international awards.

The Ambassador hopes that the Vietnamese Film Week will help the audience and people of Sri Lanka understand more about the country and people of Vietnam in the past and present.

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam and Sri Lanka are two countries with long-standing, rich cultures and national identities, and will exploit their potential to strongly promote cultural cooperation for understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.

The Ambassador emphasized that the Vietnam Film Week is also the opening event for a series of cultural exchange activities between the two countries this year. Specifically, the Sri Lankan art troupe will attend the Hue Festival in April; Vietnamese artists will open an art photography exhibition in Colombo in June, and the Vietnamese art troupe will perform in Sri Lanka at the end of the year.

After the opening ceremony, the film "Don't Burn" by director Dang Nhat Minh was shown on the opening night, attracting special attention from fans and deeply moving the audience.

The films “Hanoi Baby,” “Wild Field,” “Pao’s Story,” and “Moon at the Bottom of the Well” will be shown to Sri Lankan audiences and film lovers in the following days of the Vietnamese Film Week in Sri Lanka./.
