Celebrating Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Day in Laos

On the evening of October 13 in the capital Vientiane, the Association of Vietnamese Enterprises for Cooperation and Investment in Laos held an exchange to celebrate Vietnamese Entrepreneurs' Day (October 13).

Attending the event were Mr. Nam Vinhaketh, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Minister of Industry and Trade; Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Ta Minh Chau and representatives of 193 Vietnamese enterprises investing in Laos.

On behalf of the Association of Vietnamese Enterprises for Cooperation and Investment in Laos, Mr. Nguyen Duc Moc, Chairman of the association, reviewed the tradition of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs' Day, highlighting the achievements that enterprises operating in Laos have achieved in recent times.

As of June 2012, there were 214 investment projects in Laos with a total capital of 3.45 billion USD, ranking first among 60 countries and territories with investment activities of Vietnamese enterprises and third among 52 countries and territories with direct investment activities in Laos. Vietnam's investment in Laos mainly focuses on the energy sector with a total capital of 1.06 billion USD, accounting for 32.1% of total investment capital, followed by services and infrastructure with a total investment capital of over 1 billion USD.

In addition to investment activities, the Association is very conscious of protecting, preserving and developing the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, always having practical activities towards the Fatherland, supporting and helping Lao people with tens of millions of USD through the construction of a number of schools, clinics, roads, resettlement houses, etc., contributing to accelerating the poverty reduction in the locality.

Many enterprises such as Long Thanh Golf Joint Stock Company - Vientiane, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group, Dao Huong Group, Lao-Viet Joint Venture Bank, Phu Gia Steel, Unitel PV OIL Laos Company... are typical examples of effective investment in Laos that are highly appreciated by Lao leaders and people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nam Vinhaketh and Ambassador Ta Minh Chau congratulated Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day, welcomed the effective activities of Vietnamese enterprises in Laos, and hoped that Vietnamese entrepreneurs would strengthen solidarity, promote investment cooperation, and contribute practically to the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012. On this occasion, the Association was awarded a certificate of merit by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Lao Ministry of Industry and Trade.

At the celebration, businesses continued to contribute more than 15,000 USD to do social security work, give savings books to Lao and Vietnamese mothers who are still facing difficulties and coordinate with Bac Ninh quan ho artists to perform a special art program, demonstrating the comprehensive capabilities of Vietnamese businessmen in Laos./.
