PV:Could you please tell us about the new features of the Youth Union Congresses at all levels and the 16th Provincial Youth Union Congress?

Comrade Nguyen Dinh Hung:The first new feature that can be seen is that the Congresses at 4 levels are organized in one year, requiring the grassroots to be highly focused, well-prepared, have a scientific plan, and at the same time demonstrate the determination in the direction of the higher-level Youth Union. Due to the concentration in a short time, a vibrant emulation movement has been created in the entire Youth Union. The second new feature of this Youth Union Congress is the close coordination with the Party Committee at the same level in directing the Congress, especially in the work of preparing to organize the Congress, personnel work for the Congress, arranging maturity for Youth Union cadres, ensuring compliance with Decision No. 289-QD/TU dated February 8, 2010 of the Secretariat on Youth Union cadre regulations.

In addition, the pilot organization of direct election of secretary at the congress is considered an important step forward to expand democracy, while enhancing the role and responsibility of the leader and promoting the intelligence and sense of responsibility of the delegates attending the congress. 198/1328 grassroots units and 7/35 district-level units directly elected secretary at the congress, achieving 95% or more of the votes, ensuring a reasonable proportion of women over 15% in the Executive Committee, the personnel elected to the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee all have a guaranteed balance of at least 15%.

At this Congress, in addition to the above new features, the Congress Organizing Committee will organize forums and direct discussions for delegates to discuss the direction of the next term and many other meaningful activities.

PV:During the past term, the activities and movements of the Youth Union have made many outstanding contributions to the socio-economic development of the province. Could you please tell us about some of the outstanding results?

Comrade Nguyen Dinh Hung: During the past term, the work of the Youth Union and the youth movement in the province has achieved quite comprehensive results, including a number of typical programs and activities that attracted a large number of union members and young people to participate, such as: "Nghe An Youth Study and Follow Uncle Ho's Teachings", the program "Fueling Tradition", "Lighting Up the Dreams of Vietnamese Youth", "Warm Tet in the West", "Stimulating Socio-Economic Development and National Defense", "Accompanying Young People to Establish a Career"... Typically, the program "Towards the West" has brought nearly 8,000 young intellectuals and young volunteers to support and develop rural mountainous areas with many meaningful jobs such as: bringing electricity to help people, transferring agricultural and forestry techniques, building rural roads, building temporary bridges, repairing agricultural machinery...

Along with that, the Youth Union at all levels has stood side by side with young people in finding jobs and developing the economy and society. The youth volunteer movement has been organized effectively, extensively, has spread and made an impression in society, creating the brand of Nghe An youth with rich and practical activities: supporting the exam season; responding to natural disasters and floods; donating and giving gifts to poor children and families with preferential policies; examining and giving free medicine to poor people; donating blood voluntarily...

In addition, many new activities, new models, new playgrounds were also organized and attracted the attention of many Youth Union members such as: Dialogue with the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, "Lighting candles in gratitude", "Lighting up the dreams of poor Vietnamese children", experiencing a semester in the army, Awarding the Outstanding Young Faces of Nghe An...

PV:To promote the achievements and attract more and more young people to participate in Union activities, could you please tell us some major orientations of Union work and youth movements in the next term?

Comrade Nguyen Dinh Hung:In the next 5 years, the province's Youth Union will focus on three major issues: educating the youth on ideals, revolutionary ethics, the traditions of the heroic Soviet homeland, the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh, in order to foster faith, culture, lifestyle, and awareness of law compliance for the province's youth; actively accompanying young people in their careers and jobs, supporting young people in participating in economic development; organizing new playgrounds for young people, meaningful programs such as Towards the Western Nghe An; youth volunteers; consolidating and developing association organizations such as: Student Association, Youth Union, Young Entrepreneurs Association, Young Doctors Association... to create an environment for young people to practice, contribute and grow. At the same time, focusing on improving the quality of the Youth Union organization, paying attention to and taking care of children...

With those practical activities, in the coming term, together with the youth of the whole country, the union members and youth of Nghe An with the fire of enthusiasm and youthful hearts, vow to inherit and promote the traditions of the heroic Soviet homeland, uphold the revolutionary spirit, enthusiastically work in production, volunteer for community life, create many patriotic emulation movements with strong appeal, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province, building and defending the Fatherland.
