Tuong Duong prosecutes suspects for transporting rare animals
(Baonghean.vn) -On June 22, the Investigation Police Agency of Tuong Duong District Police issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Nguyen Van Chung for "violating regulations on the protection of animals on the list of endangered, rare and precious species prioritized for protection".
Nguyen Van Chung (born in 1987, residing in Trung Hong hamlet, Dien Hong commune, Dien Chau) confessed that he was hired to transport 3 sun bears for an unknown person to Do Luong district by motorbike, and was paid 1 million VND. However, according to the initial assessment of the authorities, the 3 sun bears were probably brought from Laos, passing through Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong district, when they were caught by the Pu Mat Forest Protection Department. The seized evidence included 3 sun bears (one with a leg amputated); a motorbike with license plate 37P7-6517 and 100 Lao notes worth 50,000 kip.
Bearlisted in the Red Book ofIUCN(World Conservation Union) as vulnerable among endangered animals.
