Tuong Duong: Gold mine collapses, 5 people die

(Baonghean) -At around 5:00 p.m. on May 1, in Dinh Huong village, Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong district (Nghe An), a gold mine collapsed, killing 5 people.

The initial cause was determined to be that while people were digging the riverbank to find gold, water suddenly rushed in and caused the tunnel to collapse. As a result, 5 people were buried.

As soon as the incident occurred, district leaders were present at the scene and promptly deployed search and rescue operations. By 7:00 a.m. this morning (May 2), the bodies of the 5 unfortunate victims had been brought out. However, their identities have not been determined.

It is known that 1 month ago, also in Tuong Duong, a gold mine collapsed, killing La Thi Trang, commonly known as Pay (11 years old), a 5th grade student at Yen Tinh primary school.

Illegal gold mining in Tuong Duong district has been going on for a long time and is considered a "traditional" occupation of the local people. Although the authorities have taken many forms of punishment, it is still the same.
