Tuong Duong actively produces winter crops
(Baonghean) - This winter crop, Tuong Duong district continues to promote the shift in crop structure, applying scientific and technological advances to production, with the determination to proactively source green and clean vegetables on the spot. Currently, people are actively preparing the land, fencing off gardens, and preparing to sow seeds.
The characteristic of Tuong Duong district is that it has a large area of sandy soil, which is very favorable for the production of various vegetables. However, due to the fragmented distribution of land, it is not possible to create large fields, mainly taking advantage of home gardens and some fertile land of the villages. Therefore, this winter crop, Tuong Duong is structured on an area of 150 hectares, but scattered in almost every commune. In which, the largest is Tam Quang 15 hectares, Thach Giam 15 hectares, Tam Dinh 12 hectares, Tam Thai 12 hectares... there are communes with only 3-5 hectares. Mr. Lo Kham Kha - Head of the District's Agriculture Department said that although not producing large quantities, the "brand" of safe vegetables attracts a large number of buyers from the lowlands. For example, in some villages of Thach Giam, Tam Dinh, Tam Thai communes... every winter vegetable harvest season, people bring them out to the street to sell to passersby. Each bunch of vegetables picked in the home garden, although not eye-catching, is favored by customers. Growing clean vegetables has become a habit of people from the past until now, with some main vegetables, tubers, and fruits: cabbage, cucumbers, eggplants of all kinds... Although people apply science and technology to growing winter crops, they almost do not use pesticides, so the quality of vegetables is guaranteed.

Thach Giam commune is a locality with many clean vegetable models, focusing on many "specialty" vegetables of Tuong Duong grown in the winter crop such as: sweet eggplant, tomatoes, mustard greens, cucumbers... At this time, people in the villages: Lau village, Cay Me village, Chan village, and Phong village are preparing to prepare the land on concentrated models and home gardens. Thach Giam has 2 areas of fertile land used to grow vegetables according to concentrated models in Chan village and Phong village. Each model is 0.7 hectares wide. The family of Mrs. Lo Thi Luyen, Chan village, has about 200 square meters of garden land. Every year, her family carefully cuts bamboo and fences, plows the land, picks up all the weeds, and carefully piles them into rows. Each row grows a different type of vegetable. Due to the abundant water source and timely fertilization, the vegetables grow well, and there are vegetables for sale every day. In addition, the family also uses a corner of the garden to grow sweet potatoes and raise pigs. Mrs. Luyen confided: In the mountainous areas, bamboo and reed are available, so we have to fence them off to prevent buffalo, cows, chickens and pigs from entering the garden to grow vegetables. During the growing process, we need to water the vegetables every day. The vegetables we grow provide meals for the family, and we can sell them to pay for other expenses.
Tam Quang is the locality with the largest area of land for winter crops in the district. However, this winter crop, the locality has encountered some difficulties. Ms. Kha Thi Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Quang commune, said: Recently, the locality harvested more than 3 hectares of summer-autumn watermelon and melon with high productivity and stable prices, which has encouraged the upcoming winter crop planting movement. According to the plan, this winter crop, the locality was assigned by the District People's Committee to plant about 20 hectares of winter crops. However, the difficulty is that due to the prolonged drought in the past time, the summer-autumn rice was planted late and has not yet been harvested, affecting the production time of winter corn on the two-rice crop land. However, Tam Quang will focus on growing winter crops on the fertile land along the river and taking advantage of home garden land. The characteristics of sandy riverside soil are very favorable for intensive vegetable cultivation, especially Tam Quang has a number of hamlets where people migrated from the lowlands and have a lot of experience in vegetable and color production.
Currently, the locality is actively propagating to people to prepare land, compost manure, plant winter crops, increase family income. The main winter crops in Tam Quang include cucumbers, vegetables, tubers, fruits of all kinds, and cabbage. Mr. Nguyen Huu Due, Bai So village has a garden of about 1.5 sao. With a lot of experience in production, he dug a pond to store water in his garden, and every winter he spends most of his garden land growing vegetables and beans as commodities, bringing in significant income for his family. Mr. Due confided: Growing winter vegetables requires people to be diligent and hard-working, the climate of Tuong Duong is dry season, so it is necessary to proactively source water for daily irrigation.
In mountainous districts with little land for production, people use a large amount of green vegetables every day, so farmers need to take advantage of the land to produce winter crops, proactively providing green vegetables in their daily meals. At the end of September, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district held a meeting to deploy the plan for winter vegetable production and winter-spring rice cultivation. Therefore, localities need to step up propaganda and mobilize people to produce winter vegetables on available land areas.
