Tuong Duong: Actively producing crops
(Baonghean) -After harvesting spring rice, Tuong Duong is actively doing irrigation, repairing works, providing seeds, fertilizers... to prepare for the winter-spring rice crop production in the highlands.
In Quang Phuc village, Tam Dinh commune, over 400 youth union members and local people actively dredged the water canals. Ms. Vi Thi Van - Secretary of Tam Dinh commune Youth Union said: Before the production season, the commune Youth Union organized dredging and clearing of key canals to provide irrigation water for the people. According to Mr. Lo Vinh Tinh - Chairman of Tam Dinh commune People's Committee, this season, the commune planted nearly 80 hectares, mainly Nhi Uu 838 variety. To prepare for the season, from the beginning of the season, the commune mobilized over 600 workers to focus on dredging Na Hom canals (Quang Phuc village), repairing Na Pai and Na Puc water retention dykes. At this time, the commune is focusing on land preparation, spreading lime as it goes to prevent pests and diseases.
Tam Dinh Commune Youth Union is dredging canals.
In Thach Giam commune, many areas are currently dry and cannot be cultivated. Mr. Luong Xuan Phung in Mac village, Thach Giam commune said: Due to limited flat land, his family had to go along Mac stream to reclaim wet rice fields. Since 2010, they have reclaimed 4 sao of rice fields, but there is still no support money for reclamation, not to mention that the family has to spend their own money to dig ditches and use plastic pipes to get water with a length of 1.2 km. In 2013, the State supported 3 households reclaiming wet rice fields in the same Ban Mac stream area with zinc pipes worth over 3 million VND.
Mr. Vi Xuan Quyet - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Giam commune added: Due to the terrain being mainly mountainous, the rice area in Thach Giam is only 18 hectares, from 2010 to now, the commune has reclaimed more than 2 hectares. The difficulty for the crop is that the fields are mainly located along streams, making irrigation very difficult. In 2013, with the State's support fund, the commune solidified 1 km of Na Chan canal in Khe Chi village. Currently, the commune mobilizes people to maintain the dykes and repair the water pipes from the upper streams to irrigate the rice. The commune has proposed to the district to ask for financial support for reclaiming rice fields for the people, but it is said that the district has not completed the procedures so there is no funding.
Mr. Lo Kham Kha - Deputy Head of the Agriculture Department of Tuong Duong district said: This season, Tuong Duong planted nearly 700 hectares, of which the communes of Tam Hop, Nga My, Luu Kien, Thach Giam, Xieng My ... have just reclaimed over 10 hectares. The District Agriculture Department is advising the District People's Committee to allocate the district budget to promptly support the money for reclaiming rice fields for the people. The district has prepared enough over 10 tons of main seeds, Nhi Uu 838 and NA2, for the communes.
The district's agricultural extension station and plant protection station have organized training courses for localities on rice seedling sowing and rice care techniques. To prevent fields from being abandoned, the district has directed communes to use multi-purpose plows to till the land, and for small fields, buffaloes and cows are used to till the land. This crop, the district allocated over 500 million VND to repair the broken siphon pipe in Khe Ngau to provide irrigation water for over 30 hectares of Pay village and Pot village in Nga My commune. Dredged and cleared many key canals such as Luu Phong canal in Luu Kien, Chon - Xieng My village canal, Na Luu and Na Tong canals to provide irrigation water for Quang Thinh, Quang Yen and Quang Phuc villages (Tam Dinh). Nearly 100 temporary water intake dykes in Yen Na, Yen Hoa, Tam Hop, Tam Thai and Tam Quang communes have been repaired...
Currently, people in Tuong Duong have not invested in intensive rice cultivation due to many difficulties in life. The district has a mechanism to coordinate with fertilizer production enterprises to lend fertilizer to people with interest support. However, the whole district only uses over 11 tons of NPK, mainly communes along the National Highway dare to invest. Meanwhile, nearly 700 hectares of rice need to be fertilized with over 300 tons of NPK fertilizer to ensure growth. Many people mainly use manure, the rest is green manure thanks to... the sky. That is why the rice yield of each crop is not high.
