Le Anh Hao, 35, spoke yesterday at a press conference marking the first anniversary of the discovery of Nhat Linh's body. He also went to lay flowers at the scene where his daughter's body was found in Abiko, east of Tokyo, according toXinhua.
At the place where the body of 9-year-old Linh was found, Mr. Hao said "the past year has been a long one" for the whole family and expressed that justice will be served in the upcoming trial.
Yasumasa Shibuya, 46, was indicted for Linh’s murder and other charges. The trial will begin at the Chiba District Court on June 4. Shibuya was the head of the parents’ association at Linh’s elementary school when the murder occurred.
Prosecutors said Shibuya strangled the third-grade girl and left her body near a ditch after abducting her by car on the morning of March 24, 2017. The victim went missing shortly after leaving home to walk to school, and Linh’s body was found two days later. Shibuya has refused to talk about the case since his arrest in April. His lawyer also declined to comment.
Local media quoted Mr. Hao as saying that he had collected 1.1 million signatures from across Japan, Vietnam and elsewhere, demanding the death penalty for Shibuya. Mr. Hao, who lives in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, met with Matsudo Mayor Kenji Hongoya before going to lay flowers for his daughter.
Mr. Hongoya stated that adults have a responsibility to protect and care for children. He was very sorry that adults could not protect Linh. Mayor Matsudo said that Mr. Hao's family will continue to live in the city and raise Linh's 4-year-old brother.
