Intelligence General Reveals Ukrainian President Planned to Be a Soviet Agent
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expressed his desire to work in the Soviet special services during his student years. This was shared by General Nikolai Malomuzh, former Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, in a program on Channel 4.
Along with Mr. Poroshenko, former Georgian president and former Odessa governor Mikhail Saakashvili also had plans to work for Soviet special services.
According to the general, Poroshenko and Saakashvili were considered potential candidates for work in the special services since they began studying at the Kiev School of International Relations, so the agency maintained contact and studied them.
The then incumbent President of Ukraine said: "I want to work in the special services", - the general added.
"We studied these two people until the last period. And the Soviet Union collapsed, then the assessment took place, and at the last period, due to objective reasons, Piotr Poroshenko did not meet the standards of the personnel apparatus of the special service, which was then the special service of Ukraine," he said.
At the same time, Saakashvili passed all the tests, however, after returning to Georgia, he chose a political career, the general concluded.
In 2014, Poroshenko signed a law on purges of the government. Commenting on his decision, he wrote on Twitter that the introduction of this purge would help cleanse the state apparatus "of KGB agents and regional party leaders."
