Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh affirmed that Vietnam's policy is to resolutely and persistently fight to protect territorial sovereignty, security and safety of navigation and aviation.
On June 5, the Shangri La Dialogue entered its final day with two plenary sessions themed “Challenges in Conflict Resolution” and “Pursuing Common Security Goals”. The plenary session with the theme “Challenges in conflict resolution” is the keynote session that the press is looking forward to with the participation of speakers including French Defense Minister Jean Yves Le Drian, Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Admiral Sun Jianguo.
In his speech, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh highlighted the important role of the Asia-Pacific region in which the ASEAN Community has become a positive factor. The formation of the ASEAN Community has expanded integration, increased connectivity, bound interests and is the center of the regional security structures that have been and are being shaped; Peace, stability, cooperation and development.
However, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh said that the regional security situation still contains complex factors that cannot be ignored, such as terrorism, nuclear risks, border and territorial disputes, maritime security, etc.
In such a context, countries need to have a more realistic view in development cooperation and dispute resolution, disagreement, and must "Cooperate and fight to resolve disagreements and prevent conflicts".
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh affirmed that Vietnam's policy is to resolutely and persistently fight to protect the integrity of territorial sovereignty, and to protect maritime and aviation security and safety by peaceful means, on the basis of international law; including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), the Declaration of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea between ASEAN and China (DOC) and sincerely discuss the early signing of the Code of Conduct between parties in the East Sea (COC).
Previously, among the six special discussion sessions taking place simultaneously on the afternoon of June 4, the session themed “Controlling Tensions in the East Sea” with speeches by Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and Major General Dao Van Truc, Director of the Center for China-US Defense Relations at the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, was also considered the most exciting discussion session.
With the East Sea topic becoming hot and covering most of the content and concerns, contacts and exchanges at this year's Shangri La Dialogue, the activities of the Vietnamese delegation especially attracted the attention of the press.
