Surprising statement: The 5th generation fighter is actually the Su-35

According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, the Su-35 is essentially a 5th generation fighter that has long been known as the 4++ generation.

Surprise announcement

Dmitry Rogozin's surprising statement was made on the occasion of the first Su-35 fighter jet demonstration at the Dubai Airshow.

"The Su-35 is fifth generation, but it is much cheaper than any fifth generation aircraft, and its difference is only one: the weapons are on an external suspension, not internal.

But in fact, it is a fifth-generation fighter - in terms of radar systems, with the ability to track several targets at once and destroy them. The Su-35 is invisible to the enemy and visible to the enemy at the same time. I am sure that this plane has a great future," Rogozin emphasized.

To accomplish the task as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, the Su-35 is equipped with engines with thrust vectoring control. The aircraft uses fifth-generation technology, providing a number of advantages over foreign-made fighters of the same class.

Mr. Dmitry Rogozin's statement was quite surprising, but according to many experts, although it belongs to generation 4++, Russia's Su-35 possesses all the features close to generation 5 fighters.

In terms of flight performance, its optimal design, speed, maneuverability and flight control capabilities enable it to defeat all Western fighter jets. What the Su-35 can do in the sky may defy all laws of physics, causing some Chinese experts to compare it to a UFO!

The Russian aircraft is designed to have unique flight characteristics. For example, only the Su-35 can perform "flat spirals", which until now for most other aircraft are considered extremely dangerous.

In the capabilities of "Sukhoi" there is also the famous technique "Pugachev's cobra" (the plane continuously gains altitude, then hangs motionless in the air as if the tail of the plane is attached to an invisible hook in the sky and then the nose dives down, then switches to horizontal flight).

In combat, such super techniques allow the aircraft not only to escape from attack, but also in a flash from the pursued to the hunter, instantly switching to counterattacking the enemy who has lost its target.

The aircraft achieves such incredible maneuverability thanks to the thrust vectoring system of the AL-41F1S (117S) engine. This engine also helps to significantly shorten the take-off run-up distance.

To achieve such high speed and agility, the Su-35 not only needs powerful engines and vector control, but its airframe must also be very durable. Therefore, all the aircraft's load-bearing structures are made of titanium.

In addition, the Su-35 is also protected from attacks by the Khibiny electronic warfare system, which has excellent jamming capabilities, blinding the opponent's active radar even in conditions where the opponent also uses high-intensity electronic warfare measures.

The Su-35 has powerful search and tracking equipment that is a difficult obstacle for Western fighters to overcome. The optical-infrared reconnaissance complex is useful for reconnaissance, allowing the Russian fighter to detect other aircraft from a distance.

In fact, the Su-35's "magic eye" has been shown to detect unfriendly targets in the sky at a distance of up to 400 km. Meanwhile, the US F/A-18 can only see within a distance of 200 km, while the French Rafale is inferior, only capable of detecting opponents within a range of 150 km.

All-round attack and defense

Faced with the undeniable power of the Su-35, the American newspaper The National Interest recently published an article stating that, currently among the world's 4th generation fighter jets, it is the Russian Su-35 fighter jet, not Western fighter jets, that is truly the king of the sky.

The National Interest (NI) commentator Sebstyan Robin commented that the fourth-generation fighters of the US and Europe cannot be compared to the Su-35. For example, although the Russian Su-35 and the American F-15 both represent fourth-generation fighters, the Russian model was born half a generation later (classified as 4++), and applied more advanced technologies, so it has some clear advantages over the American aircraft.

First of all, the Su-35 has an infrared search and track system, which allows determining the location of enemy aircraft within 50 km. This indicator is the potential radius of detection of aircraft equipped with stealth technology. Meanwhile, the F-15 does not have such a system.

In addition, the F-15 was designed without any stealth features, while the Su-35 has been redesigned and partially applied stealth technology, so detecting it is much more difficult.

Another impressive detail is that the Russian fighter jet has a range of 3,600 km without refueling. Meanwhile, the F/A-18 has a range of 2,700 km, while the Rafale only reaches 2,000 km. Mr. Robin also pointed out that another advantage of the Su-35 is its ability to carry a large amount of weapons, so this aircraft is more effective in close combat.

Overall, the Su-35 can carry 8 tons of ammunition, of which 6 tons can attack ground targets, while the F-15 is built to gain control of the air, so it cannot be equipped with air-to-ground missiles.

In terms of air combat capabilities, both Russian and American fighters can carry the AIM-120D long-range radar-guided air-to-air missile, with a range of 160 km (US) and the K-77M, with a range of 200 km (Russia).

In addition, the Su-35 can also carry the P-37M (R-37M) super-long-range missile, with a launch range of up to 300-400 km. With 4 types of short-range, medium-range, long-range and super-long-range air-to-air missiles, the Su-35's air combat capability is superior to the F-15 and is capable of defeating both the US F-22 and F-35.

The Su-35 can also carry Russian long-range anti-ship missiles, making it a formidable maritime fighter – something the US fighter jet's arsenal is weak on.

The aircraft is also equipped with a 30mm rapid-fire anti-aircraft gun with 150 rounds and guided bombs, helping it complete all missions of an interceptor as well as a long-range attack aircraft, with anti-ship, anti-ground and anti-air capabilities.
