Vietnam women's team wins big against Guam, wins ticket to 2026 Asian Cup finals
With a big win over Guam women's team, the Vietnamese women's team officially won a ticket to the 2026 Asian Cup women's final round.
On the evening of July 5 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho), the Vietnamese women's team faced the Guam women's team in the final match of Group E, the qualifying round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship (Women's Asian Cup).

Previously, with two impressive victories of 7-0 against Maldives and 6-0 against the United Arab Emirates, the Vietnamese women's team led the group with 6 points, 2 points more than Guam. A draw was enough to qualify for the final round, but coach Mai Duc Chung's students did better than that, winning big right on their home field.
Playing at home with a superior force, the Vietnamese women's team only needs to play to their full potential to aim for victory. In the world rankings, the Vietnamese women's team is currently ranked 37th, while Guam is ranked 97th, a big difference in class. However, Huynh Nhu and her teammates still entered the match with a high sense of alertness, because their opponents still have a chance to win a ticket to the next round.
Compared to Maldives and United Arab Emirates, Guam is considered a tougher opponent. However, the home team still showed determination to play with dedication and aim for victory to affirm their position.
Right after the opening whistle, the Vietnamese women's team launched a strong attack. In the 2nd minute, Nguyen Thi Van opened the score with a close-range shot after a well-coordinated play. In the 13th minute, Bich Thuy took advantage of a mistake in the opponent's defense, stole the ball in the penalty area and scored to raise the score to 2-0. Not stopping there, in the 24th minute, Bich Thuy launched a beautiful volley after a jumble of balls, scoring the third goal for the Vietnamese women's team.
Throughout the first half, coach Mai Duc Chung's players dominated the game, creating a series of dangerous situations towards the away team's goal. However, Guam also had a notable opportunity when in the 38th minute, a long-range shot from the opposing team hit the crossbar of goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh. The first half ended with a score of 3-0 in favor of the Vietnamese women's team.
In the second half, the home team continued to put pressure and played almost entirely on the opponent's field. In the 73rd minute, striker Pham Hai Yen jumped high and headed the ball accurately after being hung from the right wing, raising the score to 4-0.
In the final minutes of the match, the Vietnamese women's team still created many problems in front of Guam's goal, but no more goals were scored.
In the end, the Vietnamese women's team won 4-0, ending the qualifying round with a perfect record of winning all 3 matches, scoring 17 goals and conceding none. With this impressive result, the Vietnamese women's team officially won a ticket to the final round of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, affirming the leading position of women's football in the region./.
