Ecuadorian player dies suddenly after debut match for new club
Right after his debut match for El Jaish club (Qatar), Ecuadorian rookie Christian Benitez passed away at the age of 27.
In its announcement, the Ecuadorian Football Federation said Benitez suffered from acute stomach pain and was taken to the emergency room before going into respiratory arrest due to a heart attack within hours and passing away.
“The FEF regrets to announce the death of Christian Benitez, striker of El Jaish and the Ecuador national team,” said a statement from the Ecuadorian Football Federation.

"Benitez has just joined the club from Club America on a three-year contract. He made his debut for the team yesterday, against Qatar Sports Club, without any health complaints."
Immediately after Benitez's death, El Jaish officials also confirmed that before signing the striker from Club America, they had thoroughly examined his health and found no problems. During training days, Benitez himself did not complain about his health condition.
Benitez just joined El Jaish on July 6 from Club America. Before that, this unfortunate striker was a member of El Nacional and Santos Laguna.
In the 2009-10 season, he played in the Premier League with Birmingham on loan from Santos Laguna, where he scored 3 goals in 30 appearances.
During his career, Benitez played a total of 58 times for the Ecuador national team, scoring a total of 24 goals./.
