On the afternoon of July 30, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) held an online meeting about the AFF Cup 2020 chaired by AFF President Khiev Sameth.

After reviewing and evaluating the development of the Covid-19 epidemic, the members of the Committee determined that the plan to organize the AFF Cup 2020 in November as planned is not suitable for the practical conditions in Southeast Asian countries.

In case the above proposal is approved, the Vietnamese team will only participate in one major arena at the end of this year, the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. In the context of domestic professional football tournaments being postponed due to Covid-19, which is expected to greatly affect the national team's plans, not having to participate in the AFF Cup 2020 is considered good news for coach Park Hang-seo and his team.

AFC Cup 2020 group stage will be held in Vietnam

The remaining matches of the 2020 AFC Cup group stage in Southeast Asia with 2 representatives of V.League participating will be held in Vietnam.

In the context of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, AFC has awarded the right to host the group stage of Groups G and H in the 2020 AFC Cup to Vietnam. Accordingly, Group F will take place at Thong Nhat Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City) while Group G will take place at Cam Pha Stadium (Quang Ninh). According to the announcement, the matches will take place from August 23 to 29.

World Cup 2022 host invites Vietnam youth team to play friendly match

The Qatar Football Federation has sent a letter to the Vietnam Football Federation inviting the Vietnam U16 team to play a friendly match next October.

In the 2020 AFC U16 Championship qualifiers, Vietnam U16 regrettably lost their ticket to the finals when they lost 1-2 to Australia.
