In 2024, with the Bronze Medal of the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad,Nguyen The Quanwon a spot to enter the second round of national team selection in 2025.

However, because he wanted a challenge, this school year, Quan still registered for the national excellent student competition and continued to win first prize for the second time in this prestigious competition.

This is a solid stepping stone for me to pass the qualifying round and become an official member of the Vietnam Team to participate in the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad held in Dhahran city, Saudi Arabia in May 2025.

At the end of this exam, in addition to bringing home the Gold Medal, Quan was also the candidate with the highest score of the Vietnamese Team.

Leading in terms of scores, in July 2025, Quan continued to become an official member of the Vietnamese team participating in the International Physics Olympiad in Paris, France. Before this exam, Quan determined that this was not an easy exam as it gathered more than 400 candidates from 94 countries and territories.

As usual, the International Physics Olympiad will have 2 exams, including a theory exam and a practical exam, and the time for each exam is 5 hours. Before entering these exams, Quan allows himself to rest, does not stay up too late, and eats regularly to maintain his health and be in the best condition when taking the exam.

In the theory test, according to Quan, this year's test is not more difficult than previous years. However, the test is quite long and candidates need to allocate their time reasonably. Personally, Quan feels a bit regretful after this test because he focused too much time on test 1 and test 2. Therefore, he could not complete test 3 completely.

Meanwhile, in the practical exam, Quan did quite well and scored 14.9/20 points, ranking 2nd out of more than 400 candidates: I think, if I hadn't encountered a few technical errors in measuring, I would have had the opportunity to be at the top of the world. However, I am quite satisfied with the results I have achieved.

This year's practical exam in part 1 is technical, requiring candidates to have ideas and know how to arrange a suitable measurement system. The second practical exam is more familiar: Simulating the collision process between a meteorite and the earth, creating excitement for candidates.

Responding to Vietnamplus, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Danh Bich - Head of the Vietnamese delegation attending the 2025 International Physics Olympiad said:
This year’s exam requires candidates to pass two extremely difficult tests over two official days, including one day of theory and one day of practical testing, each lasting up to five intense hours. This year’s theory test was particularly difficult, especially test number 2, which caused many candidates to lose points.
Therefore, Nguyen The Quan's excellent performance in the second place in the practical test among more than 400 candidates created a great step forward for Vietnam in an area that was once considered a weakness.
This also shows the students' great determination in overcoming Vietnam's practical weaknesses over the past years.

Quan is the eldest brother and grew up in a family where both his parents work in the construction industry. However, after finishing high school, Quan did not follow the family tradition or the "hot" fields such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence...

Instead, I was admitted directly to the Physics major at the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) for a simple reason: I wanted to continue to study this major in depth, especially in applying Physics to life.

In addition to studying at university in Vietnam, Quan is currently planning to apply to top universities in the US with the dream of studying and researching in an advanced and modern educational environment.

Previously, during the 3 years of high school, because of pursuing national and international exams, Quan confessed that he did not have much time for other subjects. Therefore, at this time after completing the exams, Quan did not allow himself to rest. Currently, Quan is registering for IELTS, SAT, and essay writing courses to prepare for the conditions to increase his chances of being admitted and winning scholarships.

Accompanying her son, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Nhan - Quan's mother said that the family always respected all of his decisions. Therefore, since grade 9, although he was a student specializing in Mathematics, when he learned that Quan was switching to Physics, his family fully supported him. Later, Quan did not disappoint his parents when he was the valedictorian of the Physics class.Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted.

Sharing more, Ms. Thanh Nhan said: I have never had to remind or worry about my child because Quan is a very conscious, persistent and self-disciplined boy. In addition, he is lucky because he is always cared for by the school and the homeroom teacher. I am also very grateful to the collective of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. The dedication and responsibility of the school have contributed greatly to Quan's success today.

Nguyen The Quan and many students of class 12A3,Phan Boi Chau High School for the GiftedThis year, the class truly deserves the title "golden boys", when the class brought back to Nghe An Education 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals at the regional and international levels. This is also the first class of students led by teacher Le Xuan Bao.

Previously, teacher Le Xuan Bao was recruited to the school through attraction. He himself was a former student of the school, won second prize in the National Physics Competition twice, and participated in the National Team Selection Exam twice to participate in the Olympic Games.
After graduating from high school, teacher Le Xuan Bao was directly admitted to the Physics Department of the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. After that, he continued to receive a scholarship and studied for 3 years at Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University - Russian Federation, majoring in Nuclear Power.
Due to personal reasons, teacher Le Xuan Bao later did not continue to pursue this major and chose to study Physics Pedagogy at Vinh University. In 2020, teacher Bao was recruited by the Department of Education and Training to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. At that time, when he returned to this special school, teacher Le Xuan Bao's greatest wish was to participate in the work of nurturing excellent students.

In Quan's impression, Mr. Le Xuan Bao is a person who has a special love for Physics and has passed on that passion to his students. Besides, he is a very serious person with his work, strict with his students but also very close, always listening and sharing.

Talking about Quan, Mr. Bao has a lot of affection for him, because Quan is a student with a high learning spirit and is very proactive in approaching knowledge, with a sense of self-study. Moreover, Quan is also an ambitious student, with aspirations and always strives to fulfill his dreams.

With 2 Gold Medals, Quan has also continued the tradition of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and closed a school year with many outstanding achievements.

In 2024-2025, students of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted brought home a total of 7 prestigious medals in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Russian, including 4 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals.

The above results once again affirm the position of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted as one of the leading specialized schools in the country, where many generations of talented students are discovered, nurtured and given wings to reach international heights.

This is the first year that Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has 96 students winning prizes at the National Excellent Student Competition and 7 students winning medals at regional and international Olympic competitions. Notably, there are 2 Gold Medals at the International Olympic in Physics and Mathematics.
This success is built by both students and teachers. Teachers are the ones who create the "fire" by igniting students' aspirations and desire to win, and know how to promote students' strengths. The students themselves have also constantly made efforts and tried.
The achievements of Quan and his students have continued the tradition of studiousness of the school and of Nghe An students. This will also be the motivation for generations of students of the school to continue to strive, try and achieve more achievements in the coming school years.

Teacher Cao Thi Lan Thanh - Principal of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted

At the meeting and commendation ceremony for Nghe An students who won prizes in regional and international Olympic competitions recently held at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nguyen The Quan also expressed his gratitude to the teachers and the school for always having faith in the students. He also expressed his gratitude to his family, especially his parents, who have always been there, accompanying and supporting him on every journey.

This male student also affirmed that the achievements are both an honor and pride, but also a motivation to strive to practice and study in the next stages.
