USD exchange rate today in the world
The US dollar edged up in a volatile start to the week as investors awaited US inflation data due later this week, while the Australian and New Zealand dollars gained.
While the market is almost certain that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates by 25 basis points next week, investors are waiting for US consumer price data to be released tomorrow, December 11.
“The high unemployment rate in November has strengthened the argument for a 25 basis point cut next week,” said Michael Brown, senior research strategist at Pepperstone.
Accordingly, data released late last week showed US job growth jumped in November, with an increase of 227,000 jobs, following an upwardly revised increase of 36,000 jobs in October, but the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%, suggesting a tightening labor market, which will allow the Fed to cut interest rates again this month.
This data will need to be closely monitored in the coming months. If this shift continues, there is a risk that the unemployment rate will rise even higher in the coming months.
