USD exchange rate today December 23, 2024: USD increased for 3 consecutive weeks

The USD Index (DXY), which measures the greenback's movements against six major currencies, rose 0.04% this week to 107.82 points.

The dollar has retreated from a two-year high, although it is still on track for a third consecutive weekly gain. The dollar index (DXY) peaked at 108.54 in the previous session before falling to 107.62, down 0.21 points from yesterday.

The declines came amid data showing slowing inflation in the US. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index – the Fed’s preferred inflation measure – rose 0.1% in November, down from 0.2% in October. However, on an annual basis, the PCE index edged up slightly from 2.3% in October to 2.4% in November.

The euro edged up slightly after hitting a one-month low of $1.03435. It ended the session up 0.76% at $1.044175.

Previously, the EUR was under great pressure from the US-EU trade tensions. The administration of former President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on imported goods from the EU if it did not reduce its "massive trade deficit" with the US, and demanded that the EU import large quantities of oil and gas from the US.

Inflation in the US showed signs of rising again in November, recording the highest increase in the past 7 months. In this situation, the Fed adjusted its monetary policy plan, reducing the forecast of interest rate cuts for 2025 from 4 times to 2 times. This week, the Fed also cut 25 basis points to control inflation and maintain economic stability.

Domestic USD exchange rate today

The central exchange rate at the State Bank is currently maintained at 24,324 VND/USD, unchanged from the previous session. Meanwhile, the USD selling price at commercial banks remains stable at 25,540 VND/USD.

At Vietcombank, the USD exchange rate increased by 21 VND in both directions, listed at 25,210 VND/USD (buy) and 25,540 VND/USD (sell). BIDV Bank kept the transaction level unchanged from the previous session, with the buying price at 25,240 VND/USD and the selling price at 25,540 VND/USD.

Techcombank adjusted the buying price down by VND9, to VND25,195/USD, while the selling price remained unchanged at VND25,540/USD. Eximbank and ACB had no new adjustments, with Eximbank trading around VND23,807/USD (buying) and VND25,540/USD (selling), while ACB listed at VND24,240/USD (buying) and VND25,540/USD (selling).

In the free market, the USD/VND exchange rate increased slightly at the end of the day. Specifically, the buying price increased by 50 VND, reaching 25,780 VND/USD, and the selling price increased by 60 VND, reaching 25,890 VND/USD.
