USD exchange rate today in the world
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.45% to 100.92. The greenback recovered from a 14-month low against the euro, despite investors believing the Federal Reserve could cut interest rates significantly in November due to concerns about the job market.
The dollar fell on September 24 after a report showed a big drop in US consumer confidence, reflecting concerns about the job market.
Karl Schamotta, strategist at Corpay, said the contraction in the labor market is a bad sign for the US economy and predicted the Fed could cut interest rates again at its November meeting.
CME Group's FedWatch tool shows a 59% chance the Fed will cut interest rates by 50 basis points on November 7, up from 37% just a week ago.
A report on September 25 showed that new home sales in the US fell less than expected in August.
Important US economic data will be released on September 27, including the Personal Consumption Expenditures index for August.
The euro edged down 0.41% to $1.1134, after rising to its highest since July 2023 at $1.1214. The dollar index (DXY) rose 0.68% to 100.91, recovering from its lowest since July 2023 at 100.21.
The dollar also rose 1.03 percent against the Japanese yen to 144.68 yen, and later hit its highest since September 3 at 144.75 yen.
Despite concerns about the German economy and the French budget, the euro has performed well against the dollar this week, said Jane Foley, foreign exchange strategist at Rabobank.
French Budget Minister Laurent Saint-Martin warned that France's budget deficit could exceed 6% of GDP this year.
The Australian dollar fell 0.99% to $0.6823, as inflation eased. Australia's domestic consumer inflation fell to a three-year low in August, and core inflation was the lowest since early 2022. The Australian dollar had earlier hit its highest level since February 2023 at $0.6908.

On September 26, the State Bank reduced the central exchange rate between the Vietnamese Dong and the USD to 24,134 VND/USD, down 12 VND.
Commercial banks can trade USD in the range of 23,400 to 25,450 VND/USD.
Vietcombank bought USD at 24,380 VND and sold at 24,750 VND, down from September 25.
BIDV reduced the USD/VND exchange rate by 30 VND, closing at 24,420 - 24,760 VND/USD.
Techcombank decreased by 15 VND, listing the exchange rate at 24,343 - 24,847 VND/USD.
Eximbank reduced the buying price by 19 VND and kept the selling price unchanged, at 22,999 - 24,800 VND/USD.
ACB decreased by 20 VND, with the current exchange rate being 24,400 - 24,760 VND/USD.
In the free market, the USD/VND exchange rate increased by 20 VND for buying and 10 VND for selling, trading at 24,990 - 25,080 VND/USD.
